Located about a mile north of the modern city of Taos, New Mexico, Taos Pueblo is an ancient settlement of Native American Puebloan people and the largest currently occupied. The adobe structures in the pueblo are estimated to be over a thousand years old. Taos Pueblo has many similarities with sites of Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde, which are nearby settlements of the ancestral Pueblo peoples.

In the main structure the dwelling units are staggered back, so that the roofs of one level providing the floors and terraces for those above. With no interior connections between units, exterior ladders serve as a means of access.



The pueblo is surrounded by the Sangre de Christo mountains. And with an elevation of 7,200 ft (2,200 m), the crisp & dry air makes it an easy site to photograph.
